History Timelines is a free reference site with no user accounts, no sign-up, and no payment system. This policy explains, in plain terms, what limited information passes through the site and what we do with it.
What We Collect
Reading History Timelines doesn't require creating an account or submitting any personal information. Like any website, our hosting infrastructure automatically records standard server logs when a page is requested, including information such as IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the time of the request. This is routine technical data used for security and to keep the site running reliably, not information we compile into individual profiles or sell.
Cookies and Tracking
History Timelines does not currently use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies of any kind. We don't run scripts that follow you across other websites, and we don't build advertising profiles. If that changes in the future (for instance, if we add privacy-respecting analytics to understand which timelines are most useful to readers), this page will be updated first, and any cookie use will be disclosed here.
Information You Send Us Directly
If you email us to report a correction, ask a question, or request permission to reuse content, we receive whatever information you choose to include in that message, typically your email address and the content of your message. We use this only to respond to you and, where relevant, to research and apply the correction you reported. We don't add your email to a mailing list or share it with third parties.
Third-Party Links
Our timelines cite named sources: encyclopedic references, official archives, museums, and institutional records, and some pages link out to those sources or to other pages on this site. We aren't responsible for the privacy practices of external sites you visit from a link on our pages; check their own policies before sharing information with them.
Children's Privacy
History Timelines is built partly for classroom and student use, and welcomes readers of any age. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, and the site requires no registration or personal data to be read, searched, or cited.
Your Rights Under UK GDPR
As a UK-based site, we aim to meet UK GDPR principles even though we hold essentially no personal data beyond the routine server logs described above. If you believe we hold information about you and would like it explained, accessed, or deleted, contact us at the address below and we'll respond to the extent that data exists to act on.
Changes to This Policy
If our data practices change, most likely if we introduce analytics, we'll update this page and note the change here rather than altering our practices silently. This policy was last reviewed in August 2026.
